Road to Emmaus' first issue was published in the Spring of 2000, in response to a letter from a new American Orthodox convert from Wisconsin to Richard Betts and Mother Nectaria McLees, who, for a decade, had been living in and visiting countries with a heritage of traditional Orthodoxy:
That letter spurred us
into thought, and a few months later, as we believe, by
the grace of God, Christ the Saviour Brotherhood offered us the
chance to edit a new Orthodox journal, the focus and content of
which we ourselves could shape. We were delighted at this
chance to share our rich experience with Orthodox
Christians in many lands, and thus, Road to Emmaus was born!!
We welcome you to join us. And like the disciples on the road to Emmaus, may we meet in the midst of the journey, our Lord Himself.
